With so much to organise before Christmas, it seems Kate might have called for help from mother Carole Middleton and sister Pippa.

The pair were spotted loading bags of shopping and wrapping paper into the back of a car after a visit to Kate’s favourite department store, Peter Jones in London.

Both have shared their top tips for a magical Yuletide, with plenty of potential suggestions on how to keep a little Prince or baby Princess entertained.

Writing in Baby London magazine, Carole, who runs her own children’s party supply business Party Pieces, said: Relax and enjoy baby’s first Christmas. They won’t remember it, but you’ll have fond memories. 

In another piece, for Homemaker, Carole, 60, added: Christmas is such a wonderful time of the year. We’re all busy planning festive parties and get-togethers, but taking time to choose and make those all-important festive touches is a must. 

Writing in Waitrose Weekend magazine, meanwhile, Pippa, revealed that she has been shopping for stocking fillers for the past couple of months, explaining: For children, few things bring on the anticipation of Christmas more than the thought of stockings bursting with presents. 

Kate’s 32-year-old sister also described her family’s festive style, saying: Our tree decorations typically have a mix-and-match feel: each one has a story about where it was bought, found or gifted. 

Like any modern family at Christmas, the Cambridges will this year divide their time between their two sets of relatives. Traditionally the Queen and her family gather at Sandringham House on Christmas Eve to exchange gifts before a three-course candlelit dinner.

On Christmas Day they attend nearby St Mary Magdalene church before returning for a turkey lunch. While royal watchers will be hoping Santa brings a glimpse of George and Charlotte on their way to the service, William and Kate may decide to leave them at Anmer Hall.

Similarly, young royals do not normally join the Queen and her relatives for lunch on Christmas Day, so the Duke and Duchess may choose to have their meal at home so they can enjoy every magical moment of the day as a family of
