Hip Hop List 2015

Do you still record with the House?

I still do stuff with Watts to this day. Me and him are family. I feel like he showed me the game. I got love for Watts. I’ma always be down with Swisha House.

How did you get the attention of the majors? People been trying to sign me for years. I just wasn’t signing, ’cause I was seeing too much money independently. I finally decided I wanted to get signed and take it to the next level. I started sending out CDs to different labels. We got to bidding and everything. In my contract, I told them I wanted to still be able to do my independent shit, so I haven’t lost none of my opportunities with stuff I been doing before.

So although you’re signed to a major label, you’ll still be able to drop underground projects with your label signees Killa Kyleon, PJ, Sir Daily, Lil’ Mel and Chris Ward outside of your deal?

Even though I’m with Star Trak now, I’m still doing my own thang. I still got Boss Hogg Outlaws. That’s my label. That’s the reason why I signed. Everything I’ve been doing before, I can still do. I’ma put my chopped and screwed version out independently. Watts gon‘ do it for me. I ain’t never put out a solo record, and that's what I’m giving to the label.

You made a big name for yourself independently. Why did you decide to make the move over to the majors?

My main reason was I felt like we did everything we could do independent. You can grind it out independently for a long time. I got like 20 people working for me, but when you with a major, you got thousands of people working for you. And the job gets done easier. I done grinded it out down South and around my territory. I was going to the same spots over and over again, and I didn’t wanna run myself down like that. I performed everywhere I can perform, and I done grinded this out. In order to see myself go up instead of down, I gotta make that move. They gon‘ do all the work I used to do. They gon‘ talk to the radio stations and they gon‘ promote me.
