Black dresses might have proven as popular as ever, but Livia Firth ensured guests at the inaugural GCC Global Leaders of Change Awards were thinking green. Famous for her Green Carpet Challenge, which puts sustainable fashion on the red carpet, the EcoAge co-founder launched the awards to recognise businesses that are pioneering human rights.
Hosting a dinner at the Mandarin Oriental in Paris, Livia – whose green satin shoes were an appropriate choice – said: If we look at the two simple actions we all do every single day – eating and getting dressed -we can truly understand the impact that has on the planet and people.
We’ve been disconnected far too long from the issues we face today, whether climate change, poverty, slavery or equality, thinking that they all have nothing to do with vis, she told My blog!. But in
fact they are all linked in what we eat and what we wear. Held to coincide with the Cop21 climate talks in Paris, the dinner was attended by guests including actress Ana Girardot, model Cameron Russell and representatives from award winners Chopard, Kering, Marks & Spencer and Unilever.
The companies we awarded are truly trying to make a difference in addressing these important issues, said Livia.
On the night, she was supported by her husband, Oscar-winning actor Colin (left, with Livia), who praised the initiative and his wife’s work so far. I’m continually impressed with what she’s been able to achieve, he said.
Not that she plans to stop there. Saying that there are lots of exciting projects in the pipeline, Livia promises: 2016 will be full of green adventures.
