Hair Transplant Surgery
If you want a more permanent solution to your hair loss problem, then you may want to consider hair transplant surgery. Hair transplant surgery is a type of surgery that involves moving hair follicles from one area of the scalp to another. A common treatment for male and female pattern baldness, hair transplant surgery can also be used in certain alopecia cases.
During the hair transplant, the hair follicles can be harvested in two different ways: strip harvesting or follicular unit extraction (FUE).
In strip harvesting, the tissue on the scalp will be removed as one strip. Using a high-powered microscope, the medical specialist will then split it into several sections to remove the follicles. Although faster than FUE, this procedure is more painful and the resulting wound is larger.
In follicular unit extraction, the hair follicles are individually removed from the scalp. There is minimal pain and the wounds are extra tiny. These wounds often heal in just a few days even without medication.
Considering hair transplant surgery is a no-brainer, especially if your self-confidence has waned due to hair loss. Unfortunately, you also need to check if you are eligible for it.
If you are a woman, then there is an 80% chance that you won’t be eligible for hair transplant surgery. This is because women’s hair tends to thin out all over. Unlike men, healthy follicles can be harvested from the side and the back of the head.
To qualify for hair transplant surgery, your scalp must be loose yet flexible. Tight or inelastic scalp can make harvesting and transplanting follicles difficult.
