LES CAGES AUX FASHİON
If Wayne Newton and Siegfried & Roy can pack in Las Vegas audiences night after night, why not Pierte Cardin? When the endlessly entrepreneurial Female designers are finally breaking through fashion’s glass ceiling in Paris.
Över the past decade, top collections like Louis Vuitton, Celine, Dior and Givenchy have been handed över to an army of male designers. And, of course, even Coco Chanel’s mantle was passed to a man, Kari Lagerfeld.
But a triumvirate of up and coming women is shaking things up for fail, debuting new collections at three establishment houses looking to reinvent themselves with a feminine touch. Lizzy Disney, a Sheffield, England, native who used to design her own line in Nem York, is taking the reins at Jacques Fath, the late couturier who shared Disney’s penchant for glamorous living.
Thirty year old Ritu Beri, who moved to Paris three years ago from New Delhi, is rede veloping the ready to wear collection of Scherrer, founded by Jean Louis Scherrer in 1971, with a structured look designed around the idea of a corset. “I’m a bit uncomfortable with the word,” Beri said, “but it’s elegance in a modern way, not old fashioned.”
