Most people, children in particular, deal with this fear by using projection. Projection, simply put, is seeing your feelings in someone else, or blaming another person for something that you experience internally. I see a lot of this at the children’s home where I work. These children experienced deprivation and abuse in their families. Fights are constantly breaking out due to the attempt to blame someone else. Because their own feelings are so damaged, they are overwhelmed with grief at their loss. The anxiety of the loss is so high that they attempt to give that pain to someone else by blaming that person for wrongful behavior.
