As we’ve seen, everyone is naturally one of the three primary types: Vata, Pitta, Kapha, or perhaps a combination of these three. Vata is most like air and space. It is dry, cold, windy, and light. Your nature is most like Vata if many of the characteristics in this list best describe you.
The Best Diet for Vata
Following a Vata-balancing diet is one way Ayurveda suggests to maintain good health. If your Vata is aggravated, follow a good Vata-reducing diet and visit an Ayurveda physician, too, for other recommendations.
Vata types and any combinations that include the element of Vata, such as Vataapha, Vataitta, and Vataittaapha, should follow a Vata-balancing diet during the winter and very early spring and whenever the cold, dry, windy weather that most disturbs Vata tvpes prevails in your locale. Those with a completely Vata nature should follow a Vata-balancing diet all year round. If you also have Pitta or Kapha as part of your constitution, then emphasize the foods in those particular diets during their seasons. We’ll talk more about modifying your basic diet with the change of the seasons later on. If a physician trained in Maharishi Ayured has given you a specific diet to balance your doshas, follow that diet.

Certain food tastes and qualities are better for Vata types than others. For a balanced meal serve all six tastes and six qualities but eat most of those foods that reduce Vata.
